There has been some quite weird things that has happened at Mount Panorama over the years – kangaroos, horses, rabbits and even dogs have been the most colourful traffic hazards that have embraced the track in the 71 years it has been in existence. But this is one hazard that couldn’t be avoided, in a BIG way!
At around 12:46pm, just after the half way mark of the Armor All Bathurst 12 Hour, a large gum tree fell onto the track at the top of Con-Rod Straight and blocked the entire circuit. The race has been officially stopped under yellow flags whilst the NSW SES (State Emergency Service) and track officials attempt to cut up the track remove it as quickly as possible.
Officials estimate that the race will resume a little after 1:30pm. At the time the race was stopped, the Pollicina Motorsports Lancer Evo VIII was sitting 13th with John O’Dowd at the wheel.
